Before we begin, Can you introduce yourselves?

Hello, My name is Minyoung Park. I am a student in the Department of AI Application and the student president of Creative Convergence University.

Hello, I'm Seungmin Oh, also a student in the Department of AI Application and vice president of Creative Convergence University.

 

What was your first impression of SeoulTech campus?

When I first came to school, I felt that it was really big and so beautiful when the flowers bloomed! And the Boongeobang Pond was so pretty to take a short walk.

What do you learn in the Department of Artificial Intelligence Application?

In freshman and sophomore year, we learn the basic and critical technology of AI. And in our third year, we start to learn project-based education to create products and services such as Artificial Intelligence Model Development, Artificial Intelligence Service Design based on knowledge we learned in first and second year.

Then, what is the difference between Al and the department of Computer Science & Engineering?

Compared with the department of Computer Science & Engineering, while they learn about all aspects of computers including AI, we focus on the specialized study of Al.

Also, the characteristic of our department is that we can develop AI through convergence with other majors by learning multiple fields of interest like Software, Engineering, Robot.

 

Is there anything special about the Department of Al?

Actually, our department is not just an Artificial Intelligence department, but the Department of Artificial Intelligence Application. So we can have various experiences while we are undergraduates. Also it gives us the chance to get a dual degree with an overseas university. But I think a four-year full scholarship would be the most special one.

 

What do you think about receiving a four-year full scholarship with other students’ attention?

Honestly, I didn't recognize about it, but I think I should take responsibility and faithfully participate in school life as much as the school supports us.

What would be the career path of Al department students?

I think graduate courses would be the normal path due to the nature of AI study, so I think most students would choose to go to graduate school. However, it may be possible to start a business or get a job right after graduation.

I don't know in detail as a freshman in this new department. But as it is a convergent field with AI and Big data, I think there is great possibility of various careers, including system and programming, application development, web design, virtual and augmented reality development.

 

How do you feel as the new department of SeoulTech this year?

To be honest, although the unclear future of the new department made us worried, the AI field made our dream bigger, so we were able to make a drastic choice. Yet we are still freshman, so everything related to school life is really fun and exciting. And we will try our best to meet the expectations to grow into representatives of our department.

Is there any advice you want to give people interested in Al?

MYP) It would be good for people who are really interested in AI. It may be difficult if it doesn't fit you well, because due to the features of the department, there are a few courses that require knowledge of other fields. Therefore I will recommend it to someone who has their own career path.

SMO) I'd like to recommend our department if you're interested in programming or computers. As I said before, it is a department that has various possibilities in many ways. I was unfamiliar with computer programming because of few experiences, so I have trouble studying about it. Thus if you learn programming before entering school, I think it will be helpful for this major.

 

You've been elected the student president & vice president of your department this year. Please tell us how you feel or what your goals are?

MYP) I'm also a freshman like everybody else, but I want to be a student president who can communicate with our colleagues frequently. As I take the lead in the department of Al, I will take my responsibility as the president and do my best for our department!

SMO) As student vice president of the AI department, I will make a student council assist the student president and the first foundation well for the future development.

 

Are there any plans to make new clubs in the Al department? What kinds of clubs?

Since our department is new, there are no existing clubs. We are planning to gather opinions from our students and find out what kind of clubs we want to create. When it is done, our student council will generously support it.
