On April 25, the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) Career Fair and Alumni Mentoring was held. The event was organized by the "EOUI Alumni Association," a group of alumni of SeoulTech who are currently working at LH, and featured a variety of programs such as career fairs and scholarship awards. We interviewed a member of the EOUI Alumni Association to learn more.
Q. Could you introduce yourself?
-Hello! My name is Youngho Yoon. I graduated from the SeoulTech Department of Electrical and Information Engineering. I joined LH in 2019, and I am currently working as an electrician at the Gyeonggi South Regional Headquarters as a senior associate.
Q. Please explain the LH EOUI Alumni Association.
-LH EOUI Alumni is an in-company alumni association created by SeoulTech alumni. We decided to donate scholarships and organize career fairs because we want to work with SeoulTech undergraduates interested in LH and help them in the difficult job market.
Q. What were the main things you wanted to convey to the students at the career fair?
-There were two main things. First, I wanted students to have a clear idea of their career path. I've seen that a lot of my peers regret their career choice or wander around from job to job, simply because they chose a career path based on ‘currently booming industries’.
Second, I wanted to give students specific information about the different LH jobs. When I was preparing to get a job, I remember being frustrated that there wasn't much information about the job, so I tried to share some insights with the undergraduates at the career fair.
Q. Could you describe various job characteristics at LH?
-First of all, our biggest project is the construction of public housing. This involves administrative workers who sell apartments, civil engineers who deal with construction, architectural engineers responsible for laying building foundations, and mechanical and electrical workers who manage concrete and various interior issues. Finally, when the apartment is built, a landscaper will complete the exterior of the project.
Q. Could you give us some tips for LH interviews and how to prepare for one’s career while at school?
-I think it would be great to do an internship or experience on a construction site during vacation. I think having worked in the construction industry will be a selling point that will attract the attention of the interviewer. Also during interviews, I think it's best to show your amiable personality, which is most important to fitting in at the organization.
I want you to have a variety of experiences in school. If you've decided to go into the public sector, I'd recommend getting the necessary license while you're still an undergraduate. After getting the necessary license, do some of the things you can only do as a student, like language study or attending talks at your school.
Q. Do you have any last things to say?
-Thank you for your interest and I hope we can work together at LH in the future.
