Even though the first semester is over, SeoulTech's campus remains active during the summer vacation period, and 2023 was no different. Here, The SeoulTech provides a run-down of what went on this summer and introduces some new facilities which students will be able to take advantage of going forward.

Nowon Summer Water Park
From July 20, the month-long Nowon Summer Water Park was held in Main Playground area. The event, organized by NowonGu Office, was significantly larger than last year's setup, with inspiration taken from Nowon-Gu Office's successful Joong-rang Stream sledding slope event, which was held last winter.
This year, the event offered a wider range of attractions, rides, and facilities, with the organizers laying over 9000m’ of artificial grass and installing swimming pools, an 80m water slide, a lazy river pool, air slides, and more. The park provided something for all age groups, with each of the three pools having a different depth-level so that children, youths, and adults could have fun in the water. Regular water quality monitoring and the provision of multiple lifeguards were additional steps taken to ensure safety and enjoyment.
With the event open to the general public, many visitors came to cool off and have a good time. Fortunately, SeoulTech students were able to enter free of charge by showing their student ID card, which meant that plenty of students were in attendance despite it being the summer vacation. The most popular attraction was undoubtedly the 80m water slide, with seemingly every visitor enjoying the thrill of the slide into the water below. Aside from the excellent attractions, shower booths, changing rooms, and rest rooms were available for visitors’ convenience. For those wishing to relax, tents and parasols were installed so that attendees could hang out and have something to eat.
With all these, many visitors said that they hope the event returns to SeoulTech next year. According to Nowon-Gu Office, plans for next year are currently unconfirmed. Nonetheless, if the event goes ahead, information about it will be available at nowon.kr.

Job & Career Center
On June 22, SeoulTech opened the Job & Career Center in Room 101 of Student Union Building 2. Previously, counseling and other careers-related services took place in various locations, but the new, specially-purposed venue is expected to deliver better outcomes by expanding its services and providing dedicated spaces for students to speak privately with its professional careers consultants.
The center's flagship offering is the Customized Careers Service, which supports students in exploring future career options and developing relevant skills through training programs suited to their individual needs. Exclusively for freshmen and sophomores, the Future Job Exploration Program enables students to understand and prepare for careers in rapidly-evolving industries. For junior and senior students, programs prioritizing CV and interview preparation are available, enabling students to get ready for the demands of job-hunting.
In addition, applications for the Ministry of Employment and Labour's Job Search Promotion Subsidy are supported through the center, and students will have access to various resources to assist them with job-hunting. With specialist consultants assigned to each college, the center is a place where students of any subject can receive high-quality and major-specific counseling.
In an interview with The SeoulTech, one consultant expressed his hope that more SeoulTech students will now utilize the range of careers-related services on offer in the Job & Career Center, which is now open to students as they prepare to begin their careers.
New Food Court in Student Union Building
Student Union Building, as a place only for students, is an integral part of SeoulTech's campus. The building consists of a convenience store, rooms for various student clubs, and the 38th Student Council Office. As of 2024, there will also be a new food court providing affordable lunches to students. The food court will replace the old student cafeteria that was previously located on the Ist floor but has been closed since 2020.
Up until the COVID-19 pandemic, the cafeteria had been a popular facility, but as classes moved online, students were unable to use it and the decision was made to close it. With the relaxation of COVID-19 regulations and the re-opening of campus, students had been waiting for news of the cafeteria's return, but without any updates. However, this wait came to an end during the summer vacation period, when the upcoming launch of the new food court was announced alongside an opportunity for students to select a suitable name for it.
The food court aims to be a place that respects and embraces the diversity of SeoulTech student population, and it will provide a fresh, social and eco-friendly space for students to rest, meet with each other, and enjoy a break from their studies. With an emphasis on this ethos, a number of potential food court names have been put forward as candidates to be voted on. These are 'Daom,' "The Whole Rest,’ 'Eoui-Maru,' 'STreat,’ and 'ST:Able.’ The name will be decided through a vote by students and university staff.
In order to satisfy varied tastes of SeoulTech students, the food court will offer a wide selection of food, including traditional Korean food, rice noodles, and baked goods. Construction of the food court has begun, with the aim of opening in early 2024.
