Introducing SeoulTech’s Press & Broadcast System

We often come across campus media content in our daily lives at school, but who creates it, and how is it made? SeoulTech’s Press & Broadcast System is a campus media organization covering a variety of university news from students’ perspectives. As an affiliated organization of the Office of the President, SeoulTech’s campus media consists of four groups: The SeoulTech, SeoulTech Times, the Design Team, and STBS.

Students can access content through various channels, including Instagram and Everytime. In addition, both the English-language and Korean-language newspapers publish articles on their websites and through printed newspapers placed on the first floors of buildings across the campus, while STBS provides its content through Instagram and YouTube.

The SeoulTech

Founded in 2021, The SeoulTech publishes five issues each year under the slogan “Global Flutter From a Pen.” As the university’s one and only English-language newspaper, it covers major campus news as well as global issues in English, giving students opportunities to broaden their perspectives and strengthen their ability to engage with the world. Reporters work with native English-speaking professors during the editing process, receiving feedback on grammar, wording, and the overall flow of the articles. Beyond the printed newspaper, The SeoulTech shares articles and card news through its website and Instagram. The SeoulTech welcomes you to take a keen interest in its content!

SeoulTech Times

With the slogan “The Power of Print to Illuminate Our Times,” SeoulTech Times has recorded community members’ voices and delivered stories about campus and society since its launch in 1963. The newspaper publishes 10 issues each year and covers a wide range of topics, including major campus issues as well as social, cultural, and local news. Its website features both print and online articles. The newspaper also hosts the Eoui Cultural and Arts Award, which supports students in sharing and developing their creative work. SeoulTech Times looks forward to students’ continued interest and support!

Design Team

The Design Team oversees the visual design of SeoulTech’s Press & Broadcast System. Its goal is to identify the key message of each piece of content and present it in a way that makes the story easier and more engaging to follow.

For each issue, the team uses Adobe InDesign to arrange articles and create the print layout. It also produces infographics, illustrations, and article titles using various design tools. Beyond the newspaper, the team designs thumbnails for video content and creates promotional materials, including posters and banners for the Eoui Cultural and Arts Award and STBS’s annual broadcasting festival.

STBS

Under the slogan “The Voice of Justice and Truth,” SeoulTech Broadcast System, or STBS, is a campus media organization that conveys information on campus issues fairly and swiftly based on facts. During the semester, STBS produces audio programs throughout the day, from morning to evening, bringing useful information and entertainment to students on their way to and from campus. It also releases STBS News every other Tuesday at 10 a.m. on YouTube, covering campus news and issues both inside and outside the university. Every Saturday, the station uploads entertainment and drama-style videos on topics that university students can relate to. More of STBS’s content can be found on its YouTube channel and Instagram.

Process Behind The SeoulTech

To complete a single issue of the newspaper, The SeoulTech goes through the following process: an initial planning meeting, interviews and research, article drafting, proofreading by a native English-speaking professor, a layout planning meeting, publication, website uploads, and social media content creation.

During the initial planning meeting, reporters brainstorm ideas for each article and discuss topics and direction, considering which stories would have the greatest impact on students. After the topics are determined, reporters start conducting interviews and research. When necessary, we also gather materials or photographs for articles.

Next, reporters write drafts of articles based on their interviews and research and improve them through multiple rounds of revision and feedback.

After revisions, each article is proofread by a native English-speaking professor to further improve its quality. This involves checking not only grammar and expressions, but also whether the article reads naturally. Reporters incorporate the professor’s feedback and revise articles accordingly.

Once all articles are completed, reporters discuss the overall content of the newspaper in the layout planning meeting. The Chief Editor adjusts the length and selects the photographs and titles of each article to effectively represent its focus. This is followed by the design and layout process. Articles, photographs, and graphics are arranged on the actual newspaper pages, while the overall consistency and readability of the layout are carefully reviewed.

The completed pages undergo a final review before the newspaper is published. After publication, the finished articles are uploaded to The SeoulTech’s website, while card news featuring key articles is created and promoted through Instagram and Everytime.

Behind every issue lies the time, effort, and dedication of the reporters who come up with ideas, conduct interviews and research, write articles, proofread, and design each issue. Campus media is, after all, made by students who are constantly looking around campus, asking questions, and finding stories worth sharing.
