38th ST'art Student Council after the end of SeoulTech's annual festival

▲ 38th ST'art Student Council after the end of SeoulTech's annual festival

As the pandemic has subsided this year, the Student Council and all of SeoulTech became active as social distancing was eased. In the second semester, the Student Council, whose term of office ends soon, conducted a student ID card design contest and a faceto-face Euoi Daedong Festival. We will look back on the activities of the Student Council during the second semester through an interview with the President of Student Council 'Ohun Kwon.'

Interview with the ST'art Student Council President

Q1. You successfully completed the face-to-face Eoui Daedong Festival which had been canceled since 2019. In particular, the reaction of students was enthusiastic. What do you think about this?

A1. As it was the first face-to-face festival in three years, I can feel that our students had high expectations for the Daedong Festival, and our ST'art Student Council also desired to make a wonderful festival for students. So, right after the end of the first semester, the members of the executive department worked long hours to plan and prepare for it during the summer vacation.

Thankfully our students actively participated in festival activities and enjoyed the events. Students were very generous with their compliments about the festival. It seems that all the hard work during the summer was rewarded.

Q2. Due to COVID-19, the festival was canceled or progressed online, but this year, it came back to a face-to-face festival. How did you feel about this?

A2. For the past two years, due to the COVID-19, the festival has only been conducted online. Even at the beginning of this year, due to the influence of COVID-19, online classes were being held and various university events were not being operated well. So, I was very worried that the festival would not be held face-to-face this year, but in the second half of the year, as coronavirus subsided a little, we were able to hold a face-to-face festival and show what we had prepared, and it was fortunate that our students were able to enjoy the festival for the first time in three years.

Q3. Were there any difficulties while preparing for the festival? If so, what were they?

A3. Thanks to the effort of our Student Council members, there has never been a hard time in terms of work. However, it hurt my heart the most to see our members working hard for a long period of time from the beginning of June, but I was grateful for them at the same time.

Q4. A new design for the student ID card was finally confirmed. Was there any particular reason why you thought the old design needed to change?

A4. Since 2017, when I entered the university, there had been many comments among students and various on-campus communities such as Everytime that university is good, but the design of the student ID is disappointing. I knew that the last Student Council prepared the design renewal for the student ID card last year too, and I thought that I should definitely change it this year, so I actively communicated with SeoulTech and promoted it. The design selected through the contest will be applied and available next year.

Q5. Briefly explain the process of the student ID card design contest and what kind of evaluation criteria you had at each stage.

A5. First of all, when we started the contest, we received various design proposals from our criteria such as originality and subject suitability. After that, four proposals were selected. The winning design proposal was selected after receiving a vote from all students for the four proposals.

Q6. What do you think of the newly chosen (Kwak Saeng Jeung) design?

A6. A lot of very pretty and wonderful works designed by our students were submitted. In the process, we wanted to make a new student ID card by participating with the students and designing it ourselves. It was nice to carry out the renewal of design with that wish. The first placed design was chosen by our students. The design is neat and stylish, so we expect our students to proudly use their student ID card starting next year.

Kwak Saeng Jeung is a Korean word which means SeoulTech student ID card.

Q7. The 38th SeoulTech Student Council application 'ST'art' was released this time. Is there a reason why you decided to create the Student Council application?

A7. The Student Council has been operating on various platforms such as 'KakaoTalk,' 'Instagram,' 'Facebook' and 'Student Council Home Page' for a long time to provide information about activities and communicate with students. However, I felt that there was a lack of accessibility in that when the notification was turned on, students were exposed to not only Student Council information but also too much information from other sources. Also, if the notification was turned off, students had to search for news by accessing it directly on the website. Therefore, we developed a notification app just for the Student Council so that all information can be viewed in one place.

Q8. Where can students download the Student Council application 'ST'art'?

A8. Like other apps, iOS devices can download the app from the 'App Store' and Android devices from the 'Google Play Store.'

Q9. Is there a possibility of forming a second language viewing function in the future?

A9. First of all, our 38th Student Council will focus on activating and stabilizing the use of the applications. If that is successful, the next Student Council will explore adding various language functions.

Q10. What specific information can students get from the Student Council application and what are the benefits?

A10. Students can check a simple introduction of the 38th ST'art Student Council, academic schedule and payment of their Student Council membership fee. Also, it can be used for events such as the university festival. In the future, we will upload posts like other SNS, send notifications, and deliver information in real time. In addition, we are planning to take over the administrator's rights so that the next council can continue to update it.

Q11. Please give us your impression of the Student Council application launch!

A11. For the first time in the country, we developed a Student Council application just for the students. I am so proud of our development team because the application is so stable, and the utilization is boundless. Not only was I proud of developing it well, but I was also happy to receive many compliments about utilization, user intuition, and convenience. I hope it will be used well in the future, be a proud example for other universities, and also be a very convenient application for our students.

Q12. Are there any other events scheduled during the term? If so, when would it be?

A12. The 39th Student Council election will be held from November 15 to November 17. Also, there will be a cheering event at the gym during the World Cup preliminary match period. Large events are scheduled like these, and smaller events will also be held in between.

Q13. Please tell us how you feel about leading the 38th ST'art Student Council for this year!

A13. We started our term at the end of March this year. We are currently in term for about seven months, and I thought that time passed really quickly. There are still a lot of things I want to achieve as a Student Council, but I'm sad that we are facing the end of our term. I will keep working hard for the rest of my term.

The 38th ST'art Student Council will end its term on December 31 this year and the Election Commission will run from October 20 to November 18 to manage the next Student Council election.

In addition, the 39th Student Council election will be held from November 15 to November 17. We have looked around the path of the 38th ST'art Student Council in 2022 second semester. As social distance eased, the Student Council was able to restart university events that had been converted to offline. SeoulTech has finally regained its energy. We at The SeoulTech thank the Student Council for their many efforts, and we hope they can successfully continue until their last event.
