As the temperature scales up in June, more people are spending time outdoors. With longer days and cool evenings, dining spaces set up by gastronomic points just on the street, often called “yajang” in Korea, are becoming popular again. One of the best places to enjoy this atmosphere is the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail in Northeastern Seoul.

The Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail was created after the old Gyeongchun Railway stopped operating. Instead of removing all traces of the railway, city planners transformed the area into a walking trail while preserving parts of the original train tracks. The trail stretches from the area near Kwangwoon University Station in Wolgye-dong, passes through Gongneung-dong and continues toward Hwarangdae Station. Today, the area is more than just a walking path. With many cafés, restaurants, and bars nearby, it has become a popular place to relax and spend time with friends. Since the trail is surrounded by trees and open spaces, many people also visit the area to enjoy a peaceful walk and escape from busy city life.

As spring turns into early summer, many eateries around the trail place tables outside. These outdoor spaces allow visitors to enjoy food and drinks in the cool evening air. Unlike indoor cafés or restaurants, outdoor seating creates a more open and relaxing atmosphere. During the evening, the area becomes lively as people gather to enjoy meals, drinks, and have conversations with friends. In particular, the areas around Gongneung-dong and Hwarangdae Station are known for their outdoor dining culture. For many people, enjoying food outside during summer evenings has become a seasonal activity.

Visitors walking along the trail can also find cafés with terrace seating. One of them is We Plant We Coffee, a café known for its coffee, desserts, alcoholic beverages, and light snacks. The terrace area becomes especially popular on warm days, making it a good place to relax while enjoying the weather. People often visit during the daytime for coffee and desserts, while others stop by in the evening for drinks. The relaxed atmosphere makes it a perfect place to spend time with friends.

Another popular café is Low Bear, known for its large windows and terrace seating. Many visitors enjoy its hand-drip coffee and homemade cakes. Because of its calm atmosphere, it is a comfortable place to rest after walking along the trail. During warmer seasons, the outdoor seating area becomes especially popular, especially among visitors who enjoy quiet cafés.

For those who want to enjoy the evening atmosphere, Rolled Pumpkin is worth a visit. This bar offers cocktails and a variety of drinks in a stylish setting. The area around Rolled Pumpkin is often called “Yajang Road” because many nearby businesses also offer outdoor seating. At night, the area becomes lively with people enjoying food and drinks outside, creating a unique atmosphere along the forest trail. The combination of lights, outdoor seating, and warm weather makes the area feel especially lively.

The Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail is more than just a place for walking. Especially in June, when the weather becomes better, it is a great place to enjoy a walk followed by coffee, dessert, or outdoor dining with friends.

For people looking for a short break from daily routine, spending time along the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail can be an excellent choice.
