Euijeong Yoo, a professor in the Department of Ceramic Art at SeoulTech, participated in the special exhibition Symbiosis to celebrate the 2025 APEC Summit. Hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Craft and Design Foundation (KCDF), the exhibition was held from October 27 to November 30, 2025, at the historic House of Choi in Gyeongju.
Global Attention on Korean
Crafts
The Symbiosis exhibition was designed to introduce the beauty and originality of Korean crafts to world leaders and dignitaries visiting Korea for the APEC Summit. The venue, the House of Choi, is a well-known historical site that represents the heritage of the Gyeongju region.
Professor Yoo’s ceramic works were installed in key spaces inside this traditional Hanok structure.
During the summit, these spaces were used for events hosted by major embassies and for VIP banquets attended by national leaders. Placing contemporary ceramic art within a traditional building showed a visual harmony between the past and the present. After the summit events concluded, the exhibition was opened to the public until the end of November, allowing general visitors to experience the installation.
Collaborative Artistic Effort
The exhibition was directed by Byungjun
Koo, the representative of PPS and director of the House of Choi. It featured works by Professor Euijeong Yoo alongside artists Gwangjo Yoon and Hunchung Lee. The theme, Symbiosis, reflected the goal of exploring how traditional values can coexist with modern society.
Through this exhibition, Professor Yoo
demonstrated that ceramic craft is an evolving art form that connects history with the present. His participation highlights the Department of Ceramic Art’s role in promoting Korean cultural identity on an international stage.
