The English Newspaper Department of SeoulTech recruited new members from September 1 to September 27, 2021. Reporters Minju Kim and Yoojin Park interviewed one of the new members, Jonghun Park.

Q1. What made you want to join The SeoulTech?

When I entered the university, I wanted to work at a newspaper organization and do activities related to my major. However, while I was thinking about what activities to choose, I thought that I would have a hard time doing both newspaper organization and activities related to major at the same time. So, I chose the English newspaper and applied.

 

Q2. What kind of articles have you written so far and how was it to work on them?

The first article I wrote was an article introducing the student government of our university. Also in this issue, I wrote an article about new departments at our university. I enjoyed the process of planning and writing articles with the newspaper organization's members, and thinking about students reading my articles made me proud. While I was writing my articles, I realized that I am working as a member of a newspaper organization. As I wrote the articles, I felt that not only my writing skills but also my English skills improved.

 

Q3. Can students who are not good at English join this club?

Basically, it is good to have English skills, because you have to write articles in English.However, I don't think such a high level of English is required, because foreign professors and seniors help the reporters.

Q4. Were there any difficulties in publishing the articles?

Since it is a newspaper, the process of finding and correcting typos seems to be the hardest thing. Even after I look for them, there are always more.

 

Q5. What are the benefits of being a reporter for The SeoulTech?

As mentioned earlier, it was a great benefit to feel that my English skills were improving, and that I am working at a newspaper organization. Also, I think it is a great advantage to be able to communicate with foreign professors about my articles. Since I am a trainee reporter, I have not yet received the article stipend, but I heard that I will receive it too.

 

Q6. What topics do you want to write about in future articles?

It may be thought of as a light article, but I would like to write an article about the ecosystem on the campus. Also, I remember seeing cats a lot. I heard that there are catrelated clubs, so I think I can carry out interviews with club members.
