Welcome freshmen and students of SeoulTech! In this article, The SeoulTech brings you the latest news at SeoulTech in 2025.
Change in Grading System
SeoulTech is planning to ease the relative evaluation ratio. With the A+ ratio previously at 10%, students often sought easier subjects for higher grades or lost their confidence due to fear of getting lower grades. However, this ratio will increase to 15% starting this semester. In addition, English-only classes will be expanded to liberal arts courses in order to provide more opportunities for students who wish to obtain higher grades. This is because English-only major courses at SeoulTech have a more lenient evaluation grade compared to Korean-only courses.
International College Reorganization
With the establishment of the School of Liberal Studies, the formation of the Global School of Liberal Studies has also gone under discussion at International College. The system is set to allow a free selection of majors to systematize academic management and enhance basic academic skills of international students. This will prevent students from dropping out and close the educational gap.
Change in Department Name
The name of the Department of Applied Artificial Intelligence was changed to the Artificial Intelligence Department because the meaning of the word "application" was confusing. In addition, the name of the department was replaced reflecting feedbacks from surveys, which indicated that both students and industry professionals found the previous title too ambiguous.
ST Semester System Discontinued
The ST Semester System implemented from 2021 will be discontinued. The system was designed to offer a longer summer period for the Discovery Semester, educational innovation and in-depth learning opportunities for students in various fields.
The start date of the semester will be changed from late February to the first week of March. Accordingly, the 2025 spring semester will begin on March 4 and end on June 23. The reasons for this change is tocorrect inconsistencies within the university admission schedule and to make exchange programs more convenient. Moreover, an additional week will be added to the current 15-week curriculum, making it a 16-week term.
Since the summer vacation period will be reduced from three months to about two months, the Discovery Semester will be held in a period of eight weeks to five weeks.
New Graduate Medical Sciences
The SeoulTech-KIRAMS Graduate Medical Sciences was established in collaboration with SeoulTech and the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute. The new Graduate Medical Sciences aims to nurture global talents who will lead the development of medical science through regional connections with universities, hospitals, and research institutes. The school is largely divided into two majors: Biomedical Sciences and Radiological Sciences. Biomedical Sciences focuses on practical skills and scientific knowledge applicable in the medical field and incorporates a deep understanding of clinical research. Radiological Sciences majors will be able to understand the physical properties and production technology of radioactive isotopes and develop innovative new drugs and medical technologies. Radiological Sciences will also explore policies for sustainable nuclear medicine.
Efforts for Industry-Academia and Regional Cooperation
SeoulTech secured a budget of about 49 billion won for the Regional Cooperation Culture and Sports Support Center*. The sports facility will serve as a shared space for both the local community and the university, with plans to significantly improve the campus environment.
Strengthening Research Environment and Infrastructure
"SeoulTech researchers ranking among the top 2% is an important indicator of our university's research excellence and international status," said Professor Dongho Kim, head of SeoulTech's Center of Research Facilities. "SeoulTech will continue to strengthen the research environment and infrastructure so that more researchers could be recognized in the global stage."
SeoulTech will promote research support projects such as an AI-based thesis search subscription service and cloud-based researcher portal construction. The thesis search service is expected to increase research efficiency and provide researchers with essential information quickly and accurately. The researcher portal will be used as a platform to activate collaboration and data sharing among researchers, as well as expanding international research networks.
Following with the latest changes above, The SeoulTech wishes all of you a fruitful and meaningful campus life!
* TBD: The official English name has yet to be decided.
