In 2024, as the school's safe-deposit bank changes from NongHyup Bank to KB Kookmin Bank, the student ID card will be changed. Regarding the design of the new student ID card, opinions on the design were received from students through a survey. Survey results showed that students did not want the design to be changed. Therefore, it is expected that a design similar to the previous one will be issued. Functions of the new ID card will be similar to those of the previous version. It will serve as a debit card, student ID, library card, and entry key for dormitories and other buildings. In addition, it is expected that T-money will also be included, so that the card can be used as a transportation card.
What is unique about the new student ID card is the method of receiving it. Originally, to get a student ID card, students had to visit NongHyup Bank located on the 2nd floor of the 2nd Student Union Building. Students needed their student ID number to receive the card. It also required some proof of enrollment and a visit to the Division of Student Affairs for card activation.
However, this complicated student ID issuance process will be changed with this new student ID card. To receive a new student ID card, students have to access the SeoulTech Univ. Information System (SUIS) and register a photo of themselves. Photos will be used to prove identity. To get the new student ID card, students can visit KB Kookmin Bank or apply for it through a mobile app and
have it delivered to their desired location. This way, it is expected that attaining the card will be much easier for students. Also, unlike last year when it was cumbersome to get the student ID card due to the separate schedules for each department, it is expected that all applications can be made at once through the mobile apps.
The student ID card issuance schedule is as follows. In March 2024, existing NongHyup student ID card and mobile student ID card can be used, but re-issuance of NongHyup student ID card is not possible. In April, issuance of KB Kookmin student ID card will begin for all undergraduate and graduate students. Please note that NongHyup student ID card can not be used after receiving a KB Kookmin student ID card. The mobile student ID card can be used regardless of whether the physical student ID card changes.
The above schedule may slightly change depending on the status negotiations between the bank and SeoulTech. More up-to-date information can be found in the SeoulTech information notices, so please do not forget to acquire the new student ID card according to the issuance schedule.
