Growing Up with Boyhood

Boyhood (Distributor: Independent Film Company)

A Film That Grows in Real Time

The film Boyhood is a unique coming-of-age drama that director Richard Linklater created over the course of twelve years by filming the same actors once a year. The film follows the life of Mason, the main character, from ages six to eighteen. By capturing the real passage of time, the film presents the true face of growing up in a way that no casting change or makeup could replicate. It quietly follows the ups and downs of everyday life—divorced parents, shifting family dynamics, school years, first love and heartbreak, and the uncertainties of figuring out a future. As time passes, not only Mason but also his mother, father, and sister change in subtle ways, offering a deep portrayal of a family growing older together.

Ordinary Days, Extraordinary Growth

Boyhood leaves a lasting impression because it evokes the unspoken growing pains we have all experienced. When we look back on how we became who we are, we tend to remember a few major events. Though some moments truly shape a life, the film reminds us that we are not defined solely by those memorable milestones; rather, we are shaped by the accumulation of ordinary events that we hardly remember. In these moments, we experience happiness, sadness, frustration, and anger. Often, we move past those moments without realizing what they taught us, yet the person we are today is built from all those fragments of experience.

A Quiet Invitation to Look Back

In the rush of modern life, we often move forward so quickly that we fail to notice how a single day passes. Then, suddenly, when we pause and look back, we find a version of ourselves that feels strangely unfamiliar. Boyhood invites us to slow down and gently reflect on the time that has passed. The film reminds us that both life and growth are made not of grand events but of small, continuous moments—and that we will continue to grow, feel pain, and find joy in ways we may not fully notice.

BLACKPINK on the Big Screen

[BORN PINK] in Cinemas (Distributor: CGV)

BLACKPINK is a Korean girl group that debuted under YG entertainment in 2016. The group is composed of four members: Jennie, Jisoo, Rosé and Lisa. They are loved by audiences and have many fans because of their music, performances, and visuals.

Watching a Concert at a Movie Theater

These days, we can see not only movies but also concert films in movie theaters. Watching these concert films has become an important part of K-Pop culture. Concert films allow fans to enjoy the feeling and excitement of a live performance when they cannot attend a concert in person. BLACKPINK’s wonderful performance, the large screen, and the feeling of being together have contributed to the huge success of the movie BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR [BORN PINK] IN CINEMAS (2024).

Fan Reactions and Theater Experience

This new BLACKPINK concert film owes its to the fact that fans can gather together, cheer, and wave light sticks in the same space. These activities help audiences feel more immersed in the movie. This movie was also presented at 4DX theaters, where powder falls from above during scenes featuring fireworks and the chairs shake when the atmosphere of the concert is particularly intense. The 4DX additions provide a sense of realism, and help audiences strengthen the sense of community.

Future Prospects of Concert Movie

Being part of the BLACKPINK movie audience was a meaningful experience to me. I felt as if I were in the BLACKPINK concert even before I had attended one. Nowadays, not only BLACKPINK but also such artists as BTS, TWICE, and Red Velvet have released concert movies. The spread of concert movies is creating new possibilities and opportunities for the movie industry.

Before Sunrise: What We Carry Into a New Year

Before Sunrise (Distributor: Columbia Pictures)

From Chance to Destiny

Released in 1996, Before Sunrise is a romantic drama directed by Richard Linklater and has long been regarded as a modern classic. The film follows Jesse and Celine, two young strangers who meet by chance on a train and impulsively decide to spend a night together in Vienna. With almost no supporting cast and no dramatic twists, the story unfolds through their quiet walk across the city as they exchange honest thoughts about life, love, fear, and the future, showing how a fleeting encounter can deepen into a meaningful connection.

Moments That Ask Us to Reflect

Jesse and Celine share only one day and they devote themselves to making every moment count. They wander through an unfamiliar city, exchange stories, and reveal their thoughts with striking honesty. True to the film’s title, the hours before sunrise become their final opportunity to complete a day worth remembering. Their quietly meaningful journey invites viewers to reflect on their own lives. Which moments have warmed these days, and which encounters were remembered long after they have ended?

Before a New Day Breaks

The short but impressive meeting between Jesse and Celine reveals why Before Sunrise continues to be cherished. With nothing more than sincerity and curiosity, they illuminate a span of time that could have easily slipped by unnoticed, turning a chance encounter into a lasting connection. As their night comes to an end, the film leaves viewers with a subtle question. True to its title, Before Sunrise, we find ourselves asking which moments we will carry into the next chapter before the sunrise of 2026. It also invites reflection on which connections are worth carrying forward as a new day begins.
