Gen-Z Slangs: Snack

The slang word “snack” is used by Gen Z to describe attractive people. While millennials commonly used the word “babe,” “snack” spread through social media as a meme around 2018 and eventually took its place as a firm Gen Z slang term. In American slang culture, food-related expressions are often used to compliment someone on their appearance. For example, “spicy” is used — as in “she’s spicy” — to describe someone with a bold and provocative charm. Similarly, “sweet” is used in expressions like “he’s so sweet” to describe a kind and warm-hearted person. In the same way, “snack” is used for someone who is attractive or has great style.

Then, how exactly is “snack” used in everyday conversation? When someone says “he’s a snack,” it means that guy is incredibly attractive or good-looking. It can also go beyond just appearance, praising someone’s overall vibe and energy as well. Furthermore, using “a whole snack” makes the expression even stronger and more emphatic, as in, “She was a whole snack!” So being called a “snack” is ultimately a compliment — it means you’re giving off all the right vibes.
