The lighting ceremony with student representatives
SeoulTech officially welcomed the Class of 2025 with its entrance ceremony on March 3, drawing over 1,900 students, parents, and faculty members.
Why on Day One?
Unlike in past years, when the entrance ceremony was held before the semester began, this year’s event took place on the first day of classes. While this marked a departure from tradition, the decision was made with students in mind. Holding the ceremony during the semester helped avoid overlap with college-specific orientation programs, ensuring that students could participate in both. It also gave them a stronger sense of belonging from day one. The timing aligned with the student club fair, helping freshmen explore extracurriculars and engage early with campus life.
Two Halls, One Celebration
The main event was held at the university gymnasium, which accommodated up to 1,709 guests (870 seats on the first floor and 839 on the second floor). Due to limited space, the Centennial Memorial Hall Auditorium served as an auxiliary venue with 648 seats (404 on the first floor and 244 on the second). Guests were guided to the main venue first, with additional attendees—mostly parents—directed to the auxiliary hall equipped with a high-resolution LED screen for live broadcasting.
Reaching Every Student
For the first time, a Korean Sign Language interpreter was stationed on-site to assist students and parents with hearing impairments. This initiative reflected the university’s growing commitment to inclusion, especially after introducing a special admission track for students with disabilities last year. The ceremony was also live streamed on YouTube, with English subtitles and a simplified program insert to help international students follow along. The stream gained over 4,600 views, boosting SeoulTech’s visibility. To enhance the experience, the stage setup and LED installations were upgraded for better visibility, and a safety team oversaw the event to ensure smooth movement and a safe environment throughout. The event concluded without incidents.
Preparing for the Next
While the ceremony was a success, the university identified several areas for improvement. Plans include remodeling the gym, updating ceiling decorations, and replacing floor protection for a safer and more inviting atmosphere. To reduce academic disruptions and administrative challenges, holding the event in February—before the semester begins—is under review. A centralized guidance system will be used to direct guests to the main venue first, with overflow managed more efficiently. As heavy snowfall affected this year’s event, indoor photo zones and sheltered booth placements are being planned to ensure smoother operations in similar weather conditions.
SeoulTech’s 2025 entrance ceremony offered a meaningful start for the incoming class. Through inclusive planning and engaging programs, the event reflected the university’s evolving identity and commitment to its students.
