President Donghwan Kim with Ms. Jeongja Cho

SeoulTech held a special appreciation ceremony and lecture for Ms. Jeongja Cho on October 31, 2025. The event was organized to formally express gratitude to Mrs. Cho, a local resident who pledged to donate her real estate assets to the university, and to share the significance of her contribution with the university community.

A Legacy of Giving

The relationship between Ms. Cho and SeoulTech began fou r years pr ior. On March 22, 2022, SeoulTech held a ‘Development Fund Agreement Ceremony’ where Mrs. Cho pledged to bequeath real estate properties worth approximately 2 billion won. Ms. Cho, who has lived in Gongneung dong, Nowon gu, for over 20 years, decided to donate the assets she accumulated throughout her life to the local national university.

Ms. Cho explained her motivation during the 2022 agreement ceremony, stating that she considers the neighborhood her “second home.” She emphasized her belief that cultivating scientific and technological talent to make the country prosperous is the most valuable way to use her assets.

Honoring the Spirit of Sharing

The ceremony proceeded in a structured order: Presentation of an appreciation plaque, dialogue session, special lecture, commemorative tree planting, and a campus tour.

During the special lecture, Ms. Cho shared her life philosophy and the meaning of sharing with the students in attendance. She reiterated her conviction regarding education, stating, “I decided to donate with the belief that fostering scientific and technological talent is the path forward for our country.” She expressed her hope that SeoulTech students would grow into creative and independent talents who can lead the future.

Following the lecture, the participants moved outdoors for a commemorative tree planting ceremony. Ms. Cho and university representatives planted a tree together, symbolically marking SeoulTech’s gratitude and the enduring nature of her contribution.

SeoulTech’s Commitment

SeoulTech President Donghwan Kim attended the ceremony to personally thank Ms. Cho. “The noble will and warm sharing demonstrated by Ms. Cho are a great asset and source of pride for our university,” President Kim remarked. He also stated that SeoulTech would do its best to ensure that the donor’s spirit serves as a model for students. He further assured that the funds would be used strictly for the development of SeoulTech and the cultivation of talent.

According to SeoulTech’s plan, the real estate bequeathed by Ms. Cho will be transferred to the SeoulTech Development Fund upon her passing. These assets are designated to be used for supporting research by excellent faculty members and providing scholarships for students.

The appreciation ceremony served as a reminder of the strong connection between the local community and SeoulTech and highlighted the importance of community support in fostering future leaders in science and technology.
