Here at SeoulTech, students spend their days in various ways, each following their own unique routines. Among them, The SeoulTech took a closer look at the life of Hyeokgyu Kwon, a third-year student majoring in the Department of Safety Engineering.
Kwon is currently working as an undergraduate research assistant in Professor Jaeyong Lim’s lab, a position he has held for the past 10 months. Since his sophomore year, he has also been pursuing a double major in the Department of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering. In addition to his academic commitments, he serves as the president of the Safety Engineering soccer club, WIN&WINS. Alongside capstone design projects and personal time, he leads a notably busy and dynamic student life.
Monday
Kwon starts his week with a lecture called Behavior of Materials. After the lecture, Kwon goes to the cafeteria in the Student Union Bldg.1. He has lunch at Gaptjigae, one of the food stalls in the student cafeteria’s food court. After lunch, he attends afternoon lectures, and then heads to his lab to spend time working on assignments, such as Advanced Mechanics of Materials, Fire Protection Fluid Mechanics, and Computer Programming.
Tuesday
His Tuesday schedule includes attending Computer Programming. Later in the day, he spends personal time with his girlfriend, having dinner together and running errands, such as picking up employment photos from the Office of Career Development at SeoulTech. The day continues with a visit to a nearby café, Onui, and a casual meal, offering him a brief but meaningful break from his academic routine.
Wednesday
On Wednesday, Kwon meets with graduates from the Department of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering. Through this conversation, he gains insights into his academic path and future career direction. After this, he heads to his lab and works on his tasks until midnight. Then he returns home, working on his Capstone Design (1) assignments for a while before wrapping up his day.
Thursday
Thursday is a day dedicated to extracurricular activities for Kwon. First, he participates in K-OCEAN, SeoulTech’s individualized online psychological test, to better understand his inner self. Following this, he engages with “Jaematgo,” the customized employment service for students, completing his first job readiness assessment to strategically evaluate his future career path.
In the afternoon, Kwon participates in a soccer match as part of a club tournament, representing WIN & WINS in a game against FCC, the team of Department of Materials Science and Engineering. After the match, he goes to dinner with his soccer club team to strengthen team bonds beyond the field.
Even after a physically demanding day, Kwon’s academic responsibilities do not end. He closes Thursday by preparing for his upcoming lab meeting scheduled on Friday, demonstrating his dedication as an undergraduate research assistant.
Friday
Kwon presents his capstone design project and later attends an online meeting with his research lab. Following the lab meeting on Friday, Kwon spends his remaining hours addressing the feedback and refining his research data.
Hyeokgyu Kwon’s weekly routine reflects the multifaceted life of a student at SeoulTech. As an un dergraduate research assistant, double-major student, soccer club leader, and active participant in campus life, he shows how students can balance academics, research, and personal interests.
