From May 6 to 8, the College of Art and Design flea market took place at Boongeobang Pond. The flea market’s name was “Ooga Booga Da Vinci Market: A legendary Market from 390 Million Years Ago — Back in the Stone Age!” The event consisted of a main booth, a game booth, and 25 arts and crafts booths staffed by students from the College of Art and Design. Students sold handmade products, including keyrings, ceramic bowls and cups, pouches, bags, and dolls. The flea market also featured an event where participants received a stamp card at the main booth. Visitors were able to collect stamps at each booth and participate in games at the game booth based on the number of stamps they had collected.
The SeoulTech interviewed the College of Art and Design’s Dodo student council, which organized the flea market this year.
Q. What is the meaning behind the unique concept and name of the flea market?
A. As Hanghak-ro was under construction, we thought that the arrangement of booths around Boongeobang would resemble a small village market. Based on this idea, we decided that applying a Stone Age theme would make the concept more creative. The subtitle, “39 million years ago”, was inspired by “39,” the building number of Da Vinci Hall.
Q. What did you focus most on when organizing the flea market?
A. We focused on creating an event that everyone can enjoy. Therefore, we put a lot of effort into the game events so that not only SeoulTech students but also visitors from outside the university could participate. The goal was to make the flea market accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
Q. What is the process of recruiting booths for participation in the flea market?
A. Recruitment for participating sellers began about two to three months before the flea market. Since student sellers needed time to prepare items for sale while also managing their academic work, we allowed a relatively long application period. Applications were submitted through a Google Form, and all students enrolled in the College of Art and Design were eligible to apply.
Q. What do you think was the main appeal of the flea market?
A. Our goal was to promote exchange both within and outside the College of Art and Design, and to provide students with an opportunity to fully showcase their talents. I believe the greatest appeal of the College of Art and Design flea market is that visitors could purchase products made by SeoulTech students. Each work is unique and was made with a level of care and effort that differs from mass-produced items.
The SeoulTech also spoke with Hye-mi Lee (Department of Visual Design, Senior), who was staffing a booth named “Ketchup Confession” with two other students.

The Goods Selling at the Booth “Ketchup Confession”
Q. What kinds of artworks or goods are you selling?
A. We are selling two types of goods: illustrated character artwork and handmade bead keyrings. The name of our booth is “Ketchup Confession.” Following the ketchup theme, we created goods featuring illustrations of ketchup, tomatoes, omurice, and various characters mixed with a ketchup-inspired concept. We focused on making the illustrations look cute.
Q. What does the experience of selling your work directly to people mean to you?
A. I personally enjoy this kind of work, and I think meeting people gives me energy as well. Through the flea market, I can feel a stronger sense of belonging and meet many people, which makes the experience very meaningful and enjoyable.
The College of Art and Design’s flea market was a meaningful event where students showcased their handmade works while communicating with visitors through art. For SeoulTech students, the flea market also provided an enjoyable opportunity to purchase creative handmade goods on campus. Events like this help students build creativity, communication, and a stronger sense of community in campus life. This small but special marketplace became a warm memory for everyone who visited, creating meaningful connections between art and people.
